Awards

Adventist netAward

The "Adventist netAward" was established in 2008 by the Communication department at the Seventh-day Adventist Church world headquarters.

The award recognizes meritorious contribution to the Seventh-day Adventist Church's online ministry through the avenues of Internet and related technology, and in this context - visionary implementation of online ministry, excellence in responsible use of technological advancement, application development and recognition of outreach potential of online technology. The Award recognizes individual and group involvement in creative online mission outreach of the church and its public impact.

The Award is offered in harmony with the vision statement of the church's communication strategy: "Seventh-day Adventists will communicate hope by focusing on the quality of life that is complete in Christ," as well as in the context of the church's Web site guidelines and the objectives of the Global Internet Evangelism Network.

Nominations for the award are received and proposed by the leadership of the Communication department, and announced after a meeting of the "Adventist netAward" committee, and in consultation with experts in both communication and the IT industry. Recognition is given to such areas as software and network development, as well as online media productions, and corporate online services.

The first awards were presented at the Global Internet Evangelism Network forum, July 9-13, 2008 in Denver, Colorado, United States.

netPrize

TAGnet (Three Angels Global Network), a lay-organization based in Fallbrook, California, and ASI (Adventist-Laymen's Services and Industries) have partnered together to encourage church members worldwide to create new Web-based applications, mission-oriented content, and methodologies that share Jesus utilizing Web technology.

Danny Houghton, managing director for TAGnet, says, "Our goal with this new initiative, called netPrize, is to provide an incentive that will encourage church members to develop new strategies, applications, and content for the Web. More and more of our evangelism is being done via the Web, and we have to be on the cutting edge technologically to share the gospel with today's world. We also know there is a lot of talent in our church--as well as a willingness to use it for God's kingdom--and we want to tap into it."

Beginning in 2009, prizes for 1st ($10,000), 2nd($5,000) and 3rd ($2,500) place will be awarded each year for three years in three categories--communication, education, and mission/evangelism. There will also be an overall grand prize of $15,000. Cash prizes will total $75,000 for the first year. An application and additional information can be downloaded online at netprize.tagnet.org.
